What began as a small gathering of artisans and sea glass enthusiasts 15 years ago has grown into one of Delmarva’s most beloved arts events. The Eastern Shore Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival has become so popular that it now takes place twice a year — in both the spring and fall. Each festival draws visitors from across the region who come to celebrate creativity, coastal culture, and the unique beauty of sea glass.
A Celebration of Art and Coastal Craftsmanship
The festival brings together more than 90 exhibitors from across the country, all converging on the scenic campus of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. These talented artisans showcase an incredible variety of handcrafted works, from stunning murals and sculptures to bespoke jewelry, ornaments, and coastal-inspired décor.
One of the most captivating elements of the festival is sea glass jewelry. Each piece of sea glass has its own history and character. Tumbled by waves and softened by sand over decades, these fragments of glass are transformed into perfectly polished gems. No two pieces are alike — making every creation a one-of-a-kind treasure.
When you purchase sea glass art, you’re not just buying a beautiful object. You’re taking home a piece of history and supporting an art form that is remarkably sustainable.
Art with an Environmental Story
Sea glass crafting is widely considered one of the most environmentally friendly art forms in the world. The colorful glass pieces used by artists were once discarded bottles and glassware that found their way into the ocean. Over time, the waves naturally shape and polish them before they wash ashore.
Artists walk coastlines collecting these pieces, giving what was once considered trash a second life as meaningful art. It’s a powerful reminder that beauty and creativity can emerge from unexpected places.
